Love Baseball and RV’s? Combine the Two for a Great Trip

If you are a baseball fan, spring training is almost like a rite of passage. Every baseball fan needs to travel to spring training at least once, simply to enjoy the experience of watching the best players in the world up close and personal. It is great to go to a major league game during the regular season, but all of those games are played in massive stadiums in front of tens of thousands of people. In spring training, the crowds are smaller, the ballparks are smaller, and you can get right up next to the action.

So what does spring training have to do with your RV? You can combine your love of spring training with your love of RV travel for a trip you won’t soon forget.

Cactus over Grapefruit

There are two leagues in spring training, the Cactus League, and the Grapefruit League. The Cactus League is played in Arizona, while the Grapefruit League is played in Florida. If you are thinking of planning an RV trip to see some spring baseball, opt for the Cactus League if at all possible. In Arizona, all of the teams’ facilities are clustered around the greater Phoenix area, making it easy to see games in a variety of parks. In Florida, however, the teams are spread much farther apart, and you may have to travel for hours to see a few different facilities.

Great Weather

Assuming your point your RV toward the American Southwest, you can count on great weather and plenty of opportunities to be out in the sun. March is typically a great time for weather in the Phoenix area, as the sun shines nearly every day, but the heat of the summer has not yet arrived. Temperatures frequently settle in the 70’s or 80’s, which is perfect for watching an afternoon ballgame. Beyond watching baseball, there are plenty of other recreational activities to enjoy including golf, hiking, biking, tennis, and more.

Countless RV Options

Another great advantage to taking a spring training RV trip is the abundance of RV parks available in the Phoenix area. Since the Valley of the Sun is popular with retirees, RV parks thrive in this part of the world. Rather than looking in Downtown Phoenix directly, look for RV locations around suburbs such as Mesa, Chandler, Peoria, and Surprise. Of course, it is important to plan ahead when you are thinking about a spring training trip, because March is an incredibly popular time of year in the Phoenix area. To get the exact RV park you would like, make reservations as far in advance as possible.

You don’t even have to have a favorite team to enjoy spring training. As long as you love sunshine and baseball, you can have a great time watching as the teams prepare to head into the regular season. Thanks to a casual atmosphere and inexpensive tickets, spring training is a great way to enjoy a unique vacation while enjoying your RV.
