I recently gave our thoughts about our favorite local (North Western PA) Federal campground, when I wrote of the Tionesta Recreation Area. I usually don’t do too many personal reviews about private campgrounds in our area, but for our personal favorite (Left Brain and I both) in that category, I want to give a “shout-out” and over view ofKalyumet Camping and Cabins, 8630 Miola Road, Lucinda, PA 16235 Tel.: (814) 744-9622. The campground and its many facilities are owned and operated by Mark and Becky Wineman (pictured) and their wonderful helpers. There are ample amount of full hookup sites, and other type sites, a great (large) swimming pool, game area, terrific Mini Golf, and great snack opportunities as well. They also have their own Firetruck that gives young and old rides, as well as an old-time train replica that runs throughout the park on occasion also.
On Saturday evenings, weather permitting, Mark fires up a nice campfire under the huge popcorn popping cauldron, and pops and serves free popcorn to all campers who line up alongside the camp office. One never has to be concerned about safety and security at Kalyumet, as the Winemans maintain impeccable upkeep to their facilities, and make certain their customers needs are met and expectations exceeded. I realize one is usually expected to weigh both pros and cons when doing a review, but I cannot honestly think of anything that has dissatisfied us in any of our stays. Yes, we enjoy the State and federal Parks throughout every season as well, but Kalyumet is the place we do each year’s “shakedown” trip at the beginning of the year, and then for some of their many scheduled “special” weekend events. They have a Facebook Page, and I know if you contact them, they will send you a calendar of the entire season(s) events.
As a wonderful extra, this campground is centrally located to all that the Cook Forest/Allegheny Forest/Pine Creek and Clarion, Jefferson, and Elk Counties has to also offer. On weekends, there is a great little flea market less that 5 minutes drive away from the campground, in nearby Leeper, PA. Their are many horse riding stables and other area amusement park-type and water park areas also nearby, and the greatest “tubing” or canoeing down the Clarion River, within minutes of the campground.. In the Fall the foliage is incredible, and mountain streams to run your RC boats are not far away either.
Prices are right around what you would expect for a private campground (about $48/Night full hookups with CATV, except special weekends, when it is $54). If you love the forest, but still like the comforts, too, Kalyumet is awaiting your reservation, and Left Brain and I will see you there, at least two more times this season, that I can readily think of.
