Use Your Smartphone to Enhance the RV Experience

In this day and age, most people can’t imagine life without their smartphone. No matter what brand of smartphone you prefer, it seems that everyone has one of these devices attached to their hand at all times. So, as an RV owner, do you need to cling to the past and ignore this new technology in favor of the old-school ways? Of course not. Smartphones can and should be a big part of how you enjoy traveling in your RV.

To keep up with the times, many companies have developed useful apps that you can download to your phone in order to get more out of your RV travel experience. By loading up your phone with the right set of apps before you set off, you should be able to solve many of the problems that may come up along the way.

Get Where You Are Going

One of the best apps available for your smartphone is Google Maps, and this one may already be installed on your phone for regular, everyday use. Google Maps can help you get just about anywhere, which comes in handy on RV vacations where you may be exploring roads you have never before seen. If this app isn’t yet on your phone, be sure to add it right away.

Know Your Stops

There are a variety of apps available to help you locate truck stops and travel centers along your route. Since it is important to know where you are going to get your next tank of gas, and where you are going to stop for a snack, these apps can be extremely helpful and they are easy to use.

GasBuddy Is Your Friend

An app called GasBuddy can help you to save money at the pump by identifying the best rates on gas throughout your travel area. Add this app to your phone and consult it in advance of each fill up. While it might not seem like a big deal, saving even five or ten cents per gallon can start to add up by the end of a long trip.

A Great Weather App

There are a number of quality weather apps available for your phone, so be sure to have at least one or two downloaded and ready to use. It can be hard to get a reliable weather forecast while you are out camping, but knowing what the weather is going to do is crucial to making the most of your stay. Make it a habit to check in with your app each morning so you have a clear picture of what weather is expected for the day ahead.

There really isn’t any part of life that hasn’t been affected by the smartphone revolution, and RV travel is no different. You might not need to use your apps on each and every trip that you take, but some of them can really come in handy when you need them most. As an added bonus, some of the apps (like Google Maps and GasBuddy) are just as helpful when you are at home as when you are out on the road in your RV.
