Finding ‘Your Spot’ for RV Trips

Among the many things that RV owners love about their preferred mode of travel is the ability to head to a wide range of destinations at a moment’s notice. Rather than being tied to a specific location, RV owners can simply take a look at a map and pick out a spot that they would like to explore. As long as the roads are open and safe for RV travel, there is very little limit to what you can see in your rig.

Variety is great, but there is also something to be said for getting to know one specific spot inside and out over the course of many trips and many years. Having one spot that you consider your go-to option for a standard RV vacation can actually enhance your enjoyment of being an RV owner. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you have to give up exploring new places – you should always keep your eye out for new places to try. Ideally, you will find one spot that you love, along with consistently exploring new routes and new destinations.

What Do You Like to Do?

This is the biggest question when you are looking around for somewhere that could become a tradition in your family for years to come. Do you like to fish on vacation? Maybe hike or bike? Whatever it is, your go-to destination should be somewhere you can do all of your favorite activities without having to stray far from camp. If you can engage in the pastimes that you love without having to drive miles from camp, you will be more likely to come back again and again.

Not Too Far Away

You aren’t going to be very motivated to go back time and time again to the same spot if you pick a location that is a long drive from your home. There is nothing wrong with long RV trips – but you probably aren’t going to make them regularly. The spot you pick out as your go-to option should be only a 4-5 hour drive from home, at the most. A shorter drive time will mean you can use this location for quick weekend getaways in addition to longer vacations.

Building Memories

Perhaps the best argument in favor of going to the same place time and again is the opportunity to build memories with your family and friends. Specifically, kids love going back to somewhere familiar where they can remember the things they have done on previous trips while making new memories on the current journey. Rather than finding it ‘boring’ to go to the same place, most kids love the idea of knowing their surroundings and knowing what kind of fun they will be able to have.

It might take some time to settle on ‘your spot’ when it comes to RV travel, but you should know it when you see it. Most likely, you will visit a campground and realize that you love the atmosphere, surroundings, and activities which are available. At that point, the choice will become easy and you will know that you want to come back year after year.
